charles h spurgeonReader, can you find rest apart from the ark, Christ Jesus? Then be assured that your religion is vain. Are you satisfied with anything short of a conscious knowledge of your union and interest in Christ? Then woe unto you. If you profess to be a Christian, yet find full satisfaction in worldly pleasures and pursuits, your profession is false.

max lucadoIf you ever wonder how in the world God could use you to change the world, look at the people God used to change history. A ragbag of ne’er-do-wells and has-beens who found hope, not in their performance, but in God’s proverbially open arms.

Abraham- God took what was good and forgave what was bad and used “old forked tongue” to start a nation. Moses- would you call upon a fugitive to carry the Ten Commandments? God did. David- his track record left little to be desired, but his repentant spirit was unquestionable. Jonah- God put him in a whale’s belly to bring him back to his senses. But even the whale couldn’t stomach this missionary for too long.

“I’m praying for you.”

How often have we said those four words? Christians routinely promise to pray for others. And such a promise, whether deeply felt or not, is always a wonderful gift. How encouraging it is to be going through a hard time and have someone who loves you say, “I’m praying for you.”

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Meyer was born in the O’Fallon neighborhood in north St. Louis in 1943, and still speaks with a working-class St. Louis accent. Her father went into the Army to fight in World War II soon after she was born. Meyer has said in interviews that he began molesting her upon his return. She often talks about her experience in her meetings.[1]

A graduate of O’Fallon Technical High School in St. Louis, she married a part-time car salesman shortly after her senior year of high school. The marriage lasted five years. She maintains that he frequently cheated on her and persuaded her to steal payroll checks from her employer. They used the money to go on a vacation to California; she claims to have returned the money years later.[1] After her divorce, Meyer frequented local bars before meeting Dave Meyer, an engineering draftsman. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2007. Read the rest of this entry »

pastor cash lunaYou may be in pain for two reasons, because you´re doing the right thing, or because you´re doing to wrong thing. If you´re going to go through pain, let it be because you´re doing the right thing.

My previous messages have been about how to handle memories. Keeping away those memories that are useless, and bringing in meaningful moments, those moments that will nurture us, that will empower us to better develop, those moments that will remind you of the purpose God has for your life. Put your past behind you, but don´t put behind the benefits you obtained from it. God heals you, rescues you, lifts you up, and crowns you. God will open doors for you, don’t forget His benefits. Even though Joseph was an extremely successful man, he named his firstborn Manasseh because God had made him forget, Genesis 41:52 and he named his second son Ephraim because God had made him fruitful in the land of suffering. While the United States collectively experienced the terrorist attacks of last September 11, some of us quietly face our own terrors, such as I did several months ago when a specialist diagnosed my symptoms as Parkinson’s disease. (Later the diagnosis was proved wrong.) She assured me that medication would relieve my symptoms for five years, but after that I could expect my organs to break down gradually and finally fail.

Micah, a representative from God’s heavenly throne to Earth, has a message for people facing terrors. Unfortunately, most Christians have never heard Micah’s 19 sermons—sermons that could give us insight into our fears and help to relieve them.

Micah preached during and for times of terror. According to the book’s superscription,(1) Micah delivered his sermons while the feared Assyrians, noted for spreading terror, gradually engulfed the entire Middle East until only Mount Zion survived. Read the rest of this entry »
