Bible Study
The success of your spiritual life lies on the effectiveness of your personal Bible study time, and not on your temperament. Notwithstanding, your temperament will influence your Bible study habits even as much as it does your eating habits.

Sanguine people are spontaneous and undisciplined having to make a strong effort to be consistent in whatever they do. This includes studying the Word of God. There quick to note their own importance, however the issue is that they tend to be slightly layed back with things that require their utmost attention. They’re extremely susceptible to external stimuli and quick to get involved in everything, that they easily leave aside things that require their continual attention. And more than any other personality, they can easily fall prey to TV’s deprimental effects on their spiritual life. Mr. And Mrs. Sanguine must apply that vital habit, paramount to transforming their spiritual walk: “No Bible….No breakfast!” In other words, if I don’t have the time to read God’s Word on any given day, than I won’t take the time to have breakfast. If you stick to this commitment, you’ll soon develop a consistent devotional life.

Prayer Life
Prayer is vital to a Christian’s spiritual life, just as breath is to our physical one. Every christian prays, however how they pray is as varied as the people that do it. There are two main elements that have a pronounced effect in your prayer life: 1) instruction from God’s Word and your spiritual leaders, and 2) your temperament which affects everything you do. It’s not the only factor, but it is perhaps one of the most important ones.

Sanguines are quick, unpredictable and spontaneous in everything they do. This also transfers into their prayer life. They’re the type of people that happily wake up to birds chirping every morning. They possibly prefer to praise God in the mornings. Maybe even during their morning shower. Perhaps, they don’t have a list of verses they’ve covered and seen, but they’re favorite one is “Pray without ceasing.” They easily interpret this as not having to set a specific time of the day to pray. They easily address God (and others) any time they feel like it and concerning any thing that comes across their head. A sanguine once told me, “I feel guilty everytime I promise to pray for someone and forget to do it. So now I immediately present the request in my heart before God, even as soon as they’re asking me for prayer. Lord please bless this person. Perhaps it might not seem like much, but it’s definitely better than nothing. Unless they’re challenged by a special friend that exerts much influence over them or even by God Himself, they tend to lead a very superficial prayer life. They aren’t very given to solitude or contemplation, reason why they prefer to spend their time with people rather than with God.

Living by Faith
God is no respecter of persons. Why then does it seem that God uses some people more than He does others? Why does God sometimes use average, ordinary people rather than those with more talents and intelligence. Now this in no way means that God doesn’t use gifted people. The Apostle Paul, for example was an extremely gifted person with the best possible education for that day in time, and God used Him mightily. But He also used Peter, Jacob and John, ordinary people with no education. The only thing that causes one christian to be used more than another, doesn’t have anything to do with appearance, nor brains, nor talent, nor even opportunity: it’s faith. What’s the common denominator? FAITH! 2 Chronicles 16:9 says that the eyes of the Lord go to and fro seeking those with a heart unto Him to show Himself strong. The phrase “heart unto Him” refers to faith. God’s eyes are continually upon the earth seeking for men and women of faith.

With the right motivation, sanguines are the quickest to take a step of faith. They’re also the quickest to volunteer in everything. Naturally-born adventurers, they have no difficulty, specially in their youth, to take on new projects or adventures with great nerve. And surprisingly as long as their hearts are pure, God meets their needs and blesses in one way or another, their venturous undertakings. Not given to complicated chains of thought, it’s generally easy for them to believe God and take a step of faith. When it’s about winning souls, sanguines have it the easiest. They love people and hardly ever feel intimidated by anyone. If he’s sufficiently motivated spiritually, he’ll easily share his faith. Success at winning souls feeds their faith, thus they find it easier and easier each time, that is until someone asks them a theological question they’d never heard before. Sanguines are the easiest to believe the Word of God and act on it. Yet, consistency is something they need to work on.

The Choleric

Bible Study:
The success of your spiritual life lies on the effectiveness of your personal Bible study time, and not on your temperament. Notwithstanding, your temperament will influence your Bible study habits even as much as it does your eating habits.

As a general rule, cholerics are disciplined people. The problem is that many times they overlook the need they have for personal Bible-study time. They’re attitude is more along the lines of , “I go to church to hear the Word of God, but it’s such an old book and I’ve got so many important things to do, that I really don’t have time for it.” This might be the reason why so many cholerics are spiritually superficial and don’t experience much spiritual growth. They see the importance of it for others, but feel it doesn’t apply to them. Even when they do spend time in the Word, they all too often find truths appliable to others , but not to themselves. Notwithstanding, once they come to realize that their lives are meaningless without God, they begin to develop effective spiritual habits.

Prayer Life:
Prayer is vital to a Christian’s spiritual life, just as breath is to our physical one. Every christian prays, however how they pray is as varied as the people that do it. There are two main elements that have a pronounced effect in your prayer life: 1) instruction from God’s Word and your spiritual leaders, and 2) your temperament which affects everything you do. It’s not the only factor, but it is perhaps one of the most important ones.

Cholerics are tasks and activities personified in the flesh. Just like Martha, they’d rather spend their time serving God than sharing with Him. They’re self-sufficient spirit has a tendency to limit the things they bring before God. If they feel they can solve a specific situation, they’d rather do it prior to taking it up with their Heavenly Father. They just leave the big projects, in other words, those they don’t know how to complete, and present them before the Lord. Once a christian goes to the school of hard knox (many times this is the case) learning to present all their ways and ideas before God, that’s when they develop the habit of praying while working on a task. Driving, playing sports, or working on anything that doesn’t require very much effort, poses a great opportunity for prayer. Paul must have prayed like this. When traveling from city to city, he must have prayed without ceasing. One of the main enemies of a choleric’s prayer-life, is that their extremely active-minded. The moment they start to pray, they think of something that needs to be done. A simple solution for this is to keep a book or notepad handy when you go to pray, and write down every idea that comes to mind while you pray, that way you won’t lose focus of your prayer time. It’s a great way to remain focused on what you’re doing.

Cholerics can also be men and women of faith. Nonetheless they’re people so visionary and given to their objectives with such an elevated sense of self-reliance, that at times it’s difficult to discern whether they have great faith in God or in their own abilities. If they do come to a genuine faith in the living God and in His involvement in our daily affairts, it won’t be difficult for them to accept God’s Word and His Promises for their daily living. They hardly get distraught over theoretical doubts nor self-criticism. As a result, they’re willing to adventure unto new projects and wait for God to provide. Once they’ve successfully tasted God’s faithfulness in any task undertaken, they are quick to embark on another. Each time going for bolder and greater assignments. There seems to be no limits to their vision, as long as they remain steadfast to God’s Word and Ways. Many of our christian organizations, missionary societies and christian educational institutions were founded by cholerics or Sanguine-Cholerics, who like Paul, believed God with all their heart.
